I'm not one to be a grammar Nazi because I have spelling slip-ups every now and then, but enough is enough. I see one-too-many of my friends on Facebook and Twitter repeatedly misspell and misuse certain words. It makes me think they are either dumb or too lazy to look up the actual spelling.
Am I the only one who has Dictionary.com set to my bookmark bar for anytime I'm questioning the words I'm using? Probably. However, don't worry. Your good friend Dara (that's me) is here to help you out in a new blog series I call Word Blunders.
First up, Whoa.
Yesterday I used whoa is one of my tweets and didn't even bother to check if I misspelled it. I was confident I was correct, but then I saw a friend on Facebook spell it woah and I went straight to Dictionary.com. I was right!
Whoa, is an interjection. Woah, is not a real word people.
I don't blame anyone for being confused. The way whoa is pronounced looks like woah, so it is an easy mistake. However, it stops here because I cleared things up for you. I guess what I'm ultimately trying to get at is the way you type online, whether you like it or not, says plenty about you.
